THE MAVERICK VISION

To produce top quality wines from domaine-grown fruit, which are complex but elegant and understated, which are the perfect accompaniments for food, and which represent outstanding value and quality. Ronald Brown, a practitioner of biodynamic culture in France since 1993, he worked for 8 years with the late Francois Beuchet. Our vineyards are certified biodynamic/organic or sustainably farmed. Ronald has imported both the technology and practical philosophy to Australia from Europe, making Maverick one of the leading edge biodynamic vineyards and wineries in the New World.  In the 2022 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion Ronald was chosen as the Barossa nominee and one of 6 finalists for the inaugural Australian Viticulturist of the Year.

Although the company began operations in 2004, the average age of our vines is around 100 years old, with our oldest ancestor vines comprising Grenache and Semillon from the 1840s, Riesling from the 1860s and Shiraz from the 1870s.  We have a partially restored settlers’ house dating from 1846, and indeed Maverick is rooted in the European traditions and heritage of the Barossa.  Maverick wines have received accolades from the very top wine writers and wine publications worldwide, including Best Australian and Best World Shiraz at the 1st International Wine Challenge  China in 2019.  From the outset Maverick wines had been a red 5-star James Halliday winery. Our wines are to be found in the very top specialist wine retailers and dining establishments in hotels and restaurants worldwide, including several 3-star Michelin restaurants in Paris.
